We all made it again for another year of field work in the Vagos region. Maarten and I drove the "Diks" bus full of hydrological equipment from Amsterdam, Rob rode the motor bike from Alkmaar and the students drove a rental car from Faro with a stopover in Lisbon.
The outlook is promising as there seems to be more water in the rivers than previous years. No rain is predicted for the next few days but that is fine with us as we have to install the equipment. Moreover, the students got their share of rain in the Algarve, which has never happened before.
Aveiro has changed only little. We encountered all our friends again at Alboi, Ria Pao, Adriano, Martelo and in Barra. The only disappointment was that the island in the Ria de Aveiro now seems to have been colonized by seagulls so that we can not continue our research there. But we have spotted another island that may be an interesting target for our studies as well...
Over the next few weeks we'll keep you posted about all that happens here in Portugal. We hope you'll enjoy it!
